About the Florida Suncoast Chapter

What is the Florida Suncoast Chapter?

Founded in 1975, the Florida Suncoast Chapter is a non-profit, non-political organization and a regional faction of two organizations – the ICC and BOAF.

The Florida Suncoast Chapter is one of the many regional chapters of the ICC and BOAF, and is composed of code enforcement officials, architects, engineers, contractors, manufacturers, suppliers and other construction professionals, working together to promote professionalism in code application. The Chapter serves the entire Florida Suncoast, which includes Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough and Manatee counties.

What is the ICC?

Established in 1994, the International Code Counsil began as a partnership between the three model building code agencies in the United States – the Building Officials and Code Administrators International (BOCA), International Council of Building Officials (ICBO) and the Southern Building Code Congress International (SBCCI).

In 1997, the members of ICC collectively agreed to discontinue publishing their respective model codes and began developing the first family of international model building codes, known as the I-Codes.

On February 1, 2003, the ICC member partners (BOCA, ICBO & SBCCI) formally consolidated each of their individual services into a single unified organization. The newly consolidated ICC is now a 50,000-member association dedicated to building safety. Through its founders, the ICC has more than 190 years of collective experience developing safety codes that save lives. The majority of U.S. cities, counties and states that adopt codes choose building and fire safety codes developed by the ICC.

What is BOAF?

Founded in 1953, the Building Officials Association of Florida is also a non-profit, non-political organization composed of code officials, architects, engineers, contractors, manufacturers, suppliers and other construction professionals. BOAF serves as the State branch of all regional chapters and is a State Chapter of ICC. Each regional chapter appoints a member to represent their chapter on the BOAF Board of Directors. The goals and objectives of BOAF are much the same as the ICC.
